14th Century
Christmas pudding originated as a ‘plum pudding’ called ‘frumenty’ which was made by boiling beef and mutton with raisins, currants, prunes, wine and spirits.
16th Century
‘Frumenty’ has evolved into plum pudding, with the meat content being replaced with,eggs, breadcrumbs, dried fruit and given more flavour thanks to the addition of ale and spirits.
1644
Christmas Puddings were banned by the puritans as they were considered too indulgent.
1714
George I, who having tasted and enjoyed plum pudding re-established it as part of the Christmas feast. The ban was lifted and once more Christmas Puddings were served as the finale to a Christmas meal.
19th Century
The pudding becomes specifically associated with Christmas rather than any festive occasion when it was introduced to the royal Christmas dinner table by Prince Albert.
1899
Matthew Walker establishes his first factory at Exeter Street, Derby.
1967
Matthew Walker moves to a purpose built factory in Heanor, Derbyshire.

Matthew Walker launches THE PUDDING.
